Perhaps I would have hoped for a more glamorous job, but you have to start somewhere and the customer is always right. On a previous post I showed the first communion cupcake dress that I made for a friend. She had a friend who was looking for a specific cake for her mother's 60th birthday. After asking our other friend for help, she came to me. Yup, 2nd choice for a toilet paper cake creation! Ha! (I would have gone with my other friend as well - she is very talented!) The original picture I got was the one on the left. I found a picture of the cake on the right and the finished product will hopefully be a combination of the two. I did a trial tonight of the TP roll. I used our regular oven safe cereal bowls - the same ones that I sued for my nephew's volleyball cake. This cake, however, will be a two layer cake. I also did a trial with the fondant so I know what I am up against. Up until now, I have only used fondant for cut-out purposes. This is the first time covering a cake in it. I think I have a good handle on things but I guess we will find out soon enough.
This party was definitely kid inspired and kid created. We had a student leave halfway through the year and his classmates wanted to give him a going away party. The theme was Minecraft. I have learned a lot about this game over the course of a few years. Here's what I have gathered: you create things, mine things, own things, and can visit other people. You can play on a survival mode or mod...the kids aren't too clear about which it is. Some schools use it as a teaching tool and most parents hate it. During a morning work/homeroom time I showed the class how to navigate through Pinterest and they found items for inspiration. Some aspects of the food and decorations may not be up to my standards, but the kids were proud and I was proud of them!
